The day of the Year 12 Debate team started nice and early on the 8th of November 2025, seeing as the group had to be at the train station at 6:30 AM. Despite the very early start, all of the members were present and accounted for when the train arrived: the group were safely on their way to Birmingham to compete in their Bar Mock Trial.

The ride to Birmingham was two hours long, meaning that the Debate Team had plenty of
time to revise their roles. According to a source, the train ride was actually somewhat of a highlight of the trip, as it was a great opportunity to chat and bond with the other members. But all good things must come to an end, and at around 9 AM, it was time for the group to compete at the Birmingham Crown Court.
For those who don’t know, a Bar Mock Trial can be defined as the ‘acting out’ of a real trial. The members are given cases to learn and assigned roles, with the aim of simulating a real, accurate trial.
The team were very dedicated and played their roles to perfection. This dedication earned them a well deserved win, which means that our very own Year 12 Debate team is going to Nationals!
When asked how the team felt at this news, one member said that “It was very surreal, it didn’t set in until 24 hours later that we were going to nationals.” I hope that the team are very happy with their success!
