Set The Scene Film Club

If I were to ask you what club you’d think would be the most popular at the Becket school, I’m sure you would think that it’s some kind of sport activity, like rugby or volleyball. However, it’s not any kind of physical activity. It brings me great joy to announce to you that the current most popular club is the Set The Scene Film Group.

Started by Mrs Brown of the Art and DT department, the Film club currently contains 30 pupils! That’s a whole class worth of people, dedicated to puppeteering and creating videos for us to watch and enjoy. Even Mr Greig has been known to pop in and check out the progress of the next feature film.

It’s a lot of work, let me tell you. Here are only SOME of the props that these young artists are entrusted with making:

• Stained glass windows

• A Cathedral

• A boat

• A throne

• Costumes for the puppets

Unfortunately, due to the size of the club, The Film Group cannot accept any more members, but if you’re really interested about joining then I would talk to Mrs Brown. But the more pressing issue is: how did the group become so popular?

My dear reader, it’s all to do with Grease. Grease, as in the musical that the school put on in late February. A lot of students were involved with making the props, and unleashed their crafty side to produce the set. After the Grease Musical wrapped up, the craft cravings continued to bug these creatives, and so the kids were funneled into the space that is the Set The Scene group.

The club meets every Thursday after school so they can work on their projects in peace, and from the photos sent to me, it looks like the members have been making the most of the quiet.

When interviewing Miss Brown, she gave me some clues as to what the next film will be about, so I’ll relay the info. The next film contains: the Canterbury Cathedral, a saint that's very important to the becket community (wink wink nudge nudge), and a murderer…? How random. Hopefully you have more brain cells than me and pieced it together.

But real talk for a minute: a massive well done to everyone involved with the film club because heaps of effort goes into these videos. They create all the props, voice all the characters, edit the videos all by themselves! It’s incredibly impressive and they should all be very proud of themselves.
