Last term, Mrs Edwards’ year 10 and 11 childcare classes spent a lesson with
Mrs Ryder and her baby, Peggy. As well as an adorable way to spend an hour,
this gave them first hand experience of their subject. When we spoke to Mrs
Edwards we learnt that much of their course work is based around childhood
growth and development so she felt it was important to provide a real sense of
the day to day of childcare.
Over the past few years a lesson like this has become a staple of childcare,
with Ms Aris having come in last year with her child, and Mrs Edwards
introducing classes to her own children before that. We heard from students
that they were very grateful for this opportunity, especially as they were able to
have a cuddle with baby Peggy.Mrs Edwards highlighted the benefit this will
give students if they decide to work in childcare or start a family of their own
one day. Overall, a lovely and valuable experience for everyone involved.
